The Red Zone: Week 15, Early Games.

I don’t want to talk about the Broncos on Thursday. I’m still in shock that San Francisco was competent last night.

Browns 8, Bills 0 – Snow games rule. I don’t care how low-scoring they are. Cleveland’s points came off of two Phil Dawson FGs (one a 44-yarder into the wind and the flurries) and a safety when Buffalo punter Brian Moorman let the snap go over his head and into the end zone. Trent Edwards almost had a comeback after Jamal Lewis ate up a ton of clock by rushing for 145; the rookie QB was leading the Bills down the field with good passes, but they got stopped on 4th down within the 10 yard line.

Patriots 20, Jets 10 – Much too much wind around to dominate via throwing, so Laurence Maroney rushes for 100+ and a score after the wind plays havoc with punts and passes for most of the day. New England is comfortably 14-0 with the Giants in two weeks and the Dolphins up next.

Dolphins 22, Ravens 16 – Speaking of the Fins, Miami looked like they were going to blow it after Matt Stover tied it for the Ravens with a FG off a Troy Smith-led drive in the 4th quarter, until Stover hooked a 44-yard kick for the win in OT. And then — congratulations, Ravens; you gave up a 64-yard TD pass to Cleo Freaking Lemon. Six defensive backs in the game is supposed to prevent those sorts of plays.

Buccaneers 37, Falcons 3 – Ouch. Pick-six by Ronde Barber, first punt return for TD in franchise history by Micheal Spurlock, and limiting Chris Redman to 34 yards passing.

Packers 33, Rams 17 – Brett Favre owns another record (passing yards) and gets a puke-worthy montage from Fox to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.” Please retire, Brett; do it for the good of the football loving populace tired of cheap sentiment.

Jaguars 29, Steelers 22 – Good late effort, Steelers, after being down 22-7 on three David Garrard TD passes, but it isn’t enough when you let Fred Taylor do what he does and smash through for a late TD.

Panthers 13, Seahawks 10 – Damnit, I should have known better. I thought talent would outweigh the betting rule of going against the Seahawks when they have to fly east and play an early game.

Titans 26, Chiefs 17 – God, the Chiefs suck. Making an inconsistent Vince Young look good via 191 passing yards and 2 TDs; four field goals from Rob Bironas topped it off.

Saints 31, Cardinals 24 – Two TDs through the air for Drew Brees, two on the ground for running back Aaron Stecker get the win in a shootout.

  1. That Pats vs. Jets game was closer than the score indicates.
