Cubs 12, Cardinals 3 – The Cubbie 3B went deep twice and Derrek Lee added one of his own as Chicago routed the Cardinals at Wrigley. Ted Lilly gets his 15th win of the season.
Pirates 9, Brewers 0 – And those same Cubs are now tied with the Brewers, who managed to suck it up against the Pirates in a similar manner to the Cubs — Pitt hitters just nailed the Brewer bullpen badly.
Athletics 9, Mariners 3 – Oakland digs the grand slam: Kurt Suzuki and Dan Johnson both hit bases-loaded shots as Seattle has lost 14 of its last 16.
Indians 6, White Sox 2 – Cleveland has won 14 of its last 17, this one courtesy of new 2B Asdrubal Cabrera, who knocked out a 2-run jack and a sac fly. Fausto Carmona continues an amazing year with his 16th win.
Mets 3, Braves 2 – David Wright takes Tim Hudson out in the sixth to give the Mets a 3-0 lead, and Oliver Perez holds on while giving up a home run to Brian McCann. Both of the Jones boys had been scratched from the lineup.
Phillies 6, Rockies 5 – Pat Burrell is on a tear, knocking his 28th homer in the seventh and tying the game. Ryan Howard drove in Chase Utley with a double for the win in extra innings.
Devil Rays 1, Red Sox 0 – No Manny, no Papi, easy pickings for Scott Kazmir. He struck out ten and gave up five hits over seven innings.
Diamondbacks 5, Giants 3 – It’s been that kind of year for San Francisco; outside of Barry’s record, nothing but utter collapse, and Jeff Salazar hitting a three-run pinch-hit homer in the top of the 9th only adds to it.
